When are messages saved to SMAT?

Let say the engines sends a message to the error database, because the message was resent max times without receiving a reply. Will this message that is in the error database be also saved in the outbound smat file?

  It’s my understanding that messages are only written to SMAT upon successful completion of the send. If the message is written to the error database then it would not be written to SMAT.
  
  Disclaimer: I’m still fairly new to Cloverleaf and could be wrong, but that’s how I understand it.

  I have found that the message is saved to the smat file each time it is resent. So if the max retries is 3 times it will be in the smat file 3 times.

  Scott is correct. In this case, each of the tries to send (including the resend) are successful to the protocol and thus will exist in the SMAT file.
