When upgrading to 5.6, which is preferable, continuing to use our current recover_33 procs to handle message resends, or using the new “Resend OB message” option?  Are there any pros or cons to either method?  Appreciate any tips or advice.  Thanks.

      Mark,

From the Release notes of 5.6 Rev 1, it’s recommended to use the automatic re-send rather than the recovery procs (more overhead with the procs).  We re-configured our threads to use the automatic re-send, and will be making our production cutover to 5.6 this weekend.  I’ll let you know if anything shakes out.

      Greetings,

We are an AIX5.2 build 8 shop running CIS 5.6 Revision 2.

We have discovered a problem with the auto resend feature for TCP/IP outbound connections (not PDL style).  If the thread is cycled or the remote disconnects, the new State 16 does not persist:  it is lost.  This has been reported to Healthvision tech support who has confirmed our findings.

I would urge you to test the auto resend for whatever protocols you have configured.  The good news for Revision 2 is that the PDL style of TCP/IP

(specifically mlp_tcp.pdl) does retain the new State 16 if the outbound thread cycles or the remote disconnects.

If a fix emerges it will be posted to this forum.

      Enjoy.

      Bob is correct.

We have found that using the recover_33 procs with a non-PDL TCP/IP connection is the only workaround here.

More information as I have it.
