I have a questiont regarding using a pdf pointer. My initial guess ( and this could be wrong) is that this pointer links to the message on a different server. What happens if this server is down, will the link still work? Or if the info gets moved to another server or basically any reason the link won’t work. We are going to send this to our EHR which is our legal electronic medical record, i wouldnt think that it would not be good if this link is broken. Any thoughts or ideas on this. Just weighing the pros and cons.

    thanks.

Kevin, I would think that you would most certainly want to check for any errors or problems in your Cloverleaf code and establish some business rules to handle each. For example, in Tcl, you could use catch and check for the existence of the file.

I am referring to (and you may be too) if 2 months down the road a doctor goes into the emr and clicks on that link and it doesnt work. I wouldnt think (and i could be wrong) that would have anything to do with the engine assuming the message was delivered correctly and did work when first sent. We only save messages in the engine for 2 weeks.

      Thanks.

      Kevin,

You have hit on one off the concerns regarding integrating pointers to documents/images instead of the objects themselves.

You are correct that the file could be erroneously deleted (or the pointer for that matter) and it would be as if it never existed.

Another thing that sometimes happens is the file is deleted correctly (it is no longer needed) but there is no communication to the receiver of the pointer that the pointer is now obsolete. That causes some head scratching.

In any, case once the pointer has been established via Cloverleaf(R) it is my opinion it is not a Cloverleaf issue of the pointed to file and the pointer no longer have a valid relationship.

ok, thanks. I will bring up some of these concerns and see how they want to proceed.

Sorry. I thought you were sending a link to the .pdf in a message.

thats no problem, we will be in a couple of months and that will be a first for me also. We are just coming up with the pros/cons stuff on all this.

      Thanks.
