Possible problem with AIX 5.2 and CL 5.6

If you are at level 5200-04 of AIX, you may have a problem with starting or viewing the Cloverleaf 5.6 Host Server. Here’s the error I received:

$ hciss

exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program /qvdx/qdx5.6/integrator/clgui/java/bin/java because of the following errors:

       0509-130 Symbol resolution failed for java because:

        0509-136   Symbol opendir64 (number 49) is not exported from dependent module /usr/lib/libc.a(shr.o).

        0509-136   Symbol closedir64 (number 50) is not exported from dependent module /usr/lib/libc.a(shr.o).

        0509-136   Symbol readdir64 (number 51) is not exported from  dependent module /usr/lib/libc.a(shr.o).

        0509-192 Examine .loader section symbols with the ‘dump -Tv’ command.

Searching the IBM web site reveals that this error is caused by being downlevel on AIX fixes and that they recommend you be at 5200-07. Apparently CL5.6 uses a newer level of Java than they did in 5.4.1. My test system is at AIX 5200-08 and I did not have that problem. Unfortunately I have to rely on our server support staff to keep the AIX level somewhat current and they have not done that.
