We are currently running Platform V v5.2.1P2, and planning on upgrading to AIX 5.3 in the near future.

Would anyone know if there are any issues with v5.2 running under AIX 5.3?

Thanks for any feedback you might have!

      Larry,

We are considering this same configuration.  How did your upgrade go on AIX 5.3?

      Tracy,

Our project has been on hold recently.  We are actually building a second server for a high availability solution.    The server currently has AIX 5.3 installed, however we have not installed the Cloverleaf (hot standby) engine yet.

Once this project becomes active again, I will let you know how things progress.

I’d like to hear about any updates regarding AIX 5.3 as well.

      Thanks!

We are also 5.2.1 and are now considering upgrading our AIX from 5.1 to  5.3.  I’ve seen several questions posted about this compatibility but I haven’t seen any results.  Does 5.2.1 work okay on AIX 5.3?

Hi Beth – If I’m not mistaken, Cloverleaf 5.3 and below are not supported on AIX 5.3.  Likewise, I don’t believe that Cloverleaf 5.5 will run on an AIX level below 5.2.

We’re currently planning an upgrade this summer from our Cloverleaf 5.3 software running on AIX 5.1 to Cloverleaf 5.5.1 on AIX 5.3.

(Fortunately, we needed new hardware, so our migration to the new version of Cloverleaf and AIX will be on this new machine, simplifying the upgrade.)

      – Glenn

I too have become somewhat uncomfortable upgrading the OS and Cloverleaf at the same time and wondering “Which comes first, the chicken or the egg”.

I don’t like asking the same question 10 times to try and get a majority answer out of the varied responses.

To eliminate this concern I have created 4 LPARs on our 2 HACMP AIX servers.

I use 2 of the LPARs for current production with HACMP fail-over and plan to use the other 2 LPARs for future upgrade to cloverleaf and/or OS.

I currently have AIX 5.2 with Cloverleaf 5.2.1P2 running in productuion and configured the other 2 LPARS with AIX 5.3 with upgrade to HACMP and SNA and plan to load Cloverleaf 5.5.# on it.

This way I can upgrade both the OS and cloverleaf without having any impact on the current prodcution LPARs.

It is sort of like getting a new box with each upgrade.

Once the upgrade is done then I will attempt to switch the identities of the LPARs.

This is my plan for our next upgrade so I do not know if I will be able to switch the identy of the LPARs with success.

If I pull this off I think it will be a great method for future upgrades and certainly better than any approach I’ve used thus far.
