Need Cloverleaf "helper" applications

I’m looking for recommendations.  Other than the built-in tools in Cloverleaf itself, does anyone use alternative editors?  What are some of the best?

Table editing (perhaps one that sorts?)

SMAT file viewing

You can use KUMODO editor -I came to know about it in the training classes for TCL which i see is very useful since you can edit scripts remotely plus it is free.

You can also 7Edit for reading the messages.

For SMAT file viewing, we use a product called NEOBROWSE.

Not free, but not to expensive.  

It is great for viewing HL7 messages.

I don’t think we have ever used the editor that comes with Cloverleaf.

We run Cloverleaf on AIX servers and use one any of the commonly available UNIX editors (vi, vim, emacs).

Mostly we ended up using vim on the backend because it edits long lines and seems to be installed on all our UNIX boxes.

I also got Ultra-Edit to help team members edit their files on the UNIX server from their Microsoft Windows PC.

I believe Ultra-Edit would probably be the overall favorite editor if a poll was taken here at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Thanks for the input, guys!  I typically use vi for editing the messages themselves (crude, but effective) and a Windows client-side app I wrote (.Net is a hobby) to edit the TCL scripts.  It’s written to work remotely with the AIX server.  For the rest I’m still using Cloverleaf’s GUI and command line tools.

In my (ha ha) “free” time, I was thinking about expanding my little Windows TCL editor into an all-in-one tool specifically for handling Cloverleaf SMAT files, tables and HL7 editing but want to gauge the interest level/need in the community before I commit time to such a project.
