Moving a Site

I am upgrading 3.8.1P to 5.5 rev 1.  I am moving the old 3.8.1P site from the old test server to new one.  I have made a checklist of things I need to move, and there are a couple I am unsure of.  I plan to tar up the old site and untar it on the new box, then run the necessary conversions per the install manual.

I plan to move the following files:

    NetConfig

    SiteInfo

I plan to move the following directories:

    Alerts

    AppDefaults

    Tables

    Xlate

    eoalias

    formats

    pdls

    tclprocs

    views

I am NOT Moving the exec directory.  This gets created if I open and save the NetConfig, right?

I am unsure about moving java_uccs, lock and revisions directories.

Can anyone verify my plan is OK and let me know about the three unknowns?

    Thanks,

    Bob

The three directories are not needed.

Also, do not move the SiteInfo. It will be 3.8.1 specific.

The release number is in there and will throw you off.

The other directories look fine to me.

You are right that you don’t want to copy the exec directory.

However, make sure you do a siteinit on the new box, then copy

the files/directories to their proper location.

Siteinit will create the exec directory, not NetConfig.

      Robert.

This is pretty much what we have done for the last few upgrades.

tar ‘key’ files and directories (we include the NetConfig)

create the site under the new root or on the new server

       install the tar file

       exeucte the ‘conversion’ tools

process the netConfig, ready for the new root

       load and check the NetConfig

A thing you should consider is to  load and save the NetConfig and be careful of pathnames for FILESET and icons.
