Merging – A34 TO A18

Can anyone out there help me. I’m asked to do a merge with an ADT_A34 to ADT_A18, where A34 move the visits to the correct medical record and A18 delete the old med record.

I need some help ladies and gents.

  So can you be a little more elobrate in you question.
  
  Are you geting one single message in and need to have it output two messages.

  It’s the other way around. I’m getting an A34 followed by an A18 and I have to merge the two. A34 moves visits in the right oder into eagle, but the incorect med record remains. That’s where that A18 comes in, it suppose to delete the old med record. I hope that was right.

  It is my recollection that an A34 supercedes an A18 in HL7-dom. The A18 was kept for backward compatibility, but systems are to use A34s going forward. In fact I believe in new versions of HL7 they sunsetted A34s, and went to A40-A47 to merge MRNs and visits.
