Mapping LOINCs

Has anyone had experience with LOINC retro-mapping for an older (legacy) system? The vendor is recommending that the LOINCs be mapped in the OBX-3 as a subfield instead of a repeating field as below:

OBX|1||CLNT-230005^Sodium^L^2951-2^^LN||126|

  Don’t have experience doing this, but if you Google “loinc hl7”, you get a ton of links – many of which look very helpful, some with downloadable programs for mapping, etc. Here’s a couple:
