Interfaced System Failure Notification

I am building a bi-directional interface between our PAS and a new A&E (Accident and Emergency) system. The new system will dependent upon the PAS interface for patient identifiers (where new patients are registered on the A&E system) and episode (encounter) numbers.

Bearing in mind the A&E department is operational around the clock I want to build in some sort of alert should the connection between Cloverleaf and PAS fail for whatever reason.
