FTP latency issue

I have a process that contains 5 ftp threads.  We seem to be having a major issue with latency between these threads, all of which are set up to run real-time.  They are all setup with the defaults for scheduling; should this be changed?  To what?  

What else can I look at to reduce the latency issue?

I place each outbound ftp thread in it’s own process.

I realize that you get into cross processing but at least it seems one bad thread won’t hold up the whole show.

Will that help even if I have two outbound threads going to the same ftp feed?  

That is where I think my problem is.

Yes, in theory, any outbound feed that has issues connecting/transferring should not effect the others provided each are in their own process.
