Our err log has LOTS of messages:

PDL signaled exception: code 1, msg device error (remote side probably shut down)

Seems like every 20 seconds or so.  Anyone have any idea as to the possible cause?  Our other threads don’t have nearly the number of these messages.

When I do a netstat -a | grep 8450, it returns several ESTABLISHED messages, then nothing.

Should I talk to the receiving vendor our our Network folks.  Just trying to figure out where to start.

CL Version 5.7, patch 2 AIX

      Thanks.

          Mike,

          Is there a VPN involved?

What you are seeing is Cloverleaf detecting the other side has shut down.

Since you probably have Cloverleaf configured to retry connecting, eventually you get re-connected. Then you get disconnected and the cycle begins anew.

I would talk to the vendor first to determine if he attempts to keep a persistent connection. Some systems are configured by default to close with each message received but usually can be configured to not do that.

Others can be configured to close if nothing is received after a certain amount of time.

If there is a VPN involved, then you should also contact whoever administers the VPN to see what they are doing to this connection.

I see these sorts of request for help a lot!

You will never know what is going on within your network if you don’t have some sort of view port into it!  With all of the TCP/IP interfaces in use by Cloverleaf, I don’t see how you can be without a good sniffer.

You can download Wireshark for free at http://www.wireshark.org/download.html

There are many others, some free some not.  Without a sniffer to see what is actually going on the wire, you will always get vendors pointing at each other.

My $0.02 worth (Probably worth less than half of that)  😀

Thanks Jim and Charlie.  I’d take either of your 2 cents worth any day!
