concat in xlate

i am trying to concat two fields in an xlate so it comes out in one field separated by ^ . But only the first field is being populated. Any ideas.

here is what i have

0(0).ZMQ.90037 0(0).ZMQ.90038 ->0(0).ZFT.90005

  I believe the xlate gui provides a CONCAT action.

  The target appears to be a user defined field in a Z segment.
  
  Why not just specify the field in the variant as an appropriate component type and then use the component notation provided in the Xlate?
  
  No need for a CONCAT just copy the first field to the first
