How would I go about learning TCLPython that is relavenat to Cloverleaf? I understand Python is a powerful tool but some of the trainings I go thought have no relevance to Cloverleaf.

Thank you

TCL and Python are two totally separate scripting languages. TCL can be used with all versions of Cloverleaf. Python can be used with recent versions of Cloverleaf. You are correct that tutorials on the internet about either language will not typically show how to use them with Cloverleaf. Regardless, it helps to understand how the languages work both with and without Cloverleaf.

If you just want to learn scripting with Cloverleaf, I’d suggest going to Infor training. At least Cloverleaf level 1 and level 2. I think they have a separate course for TCL scripting.

Yes.

I have seen that before but was hesitant because I have zero previous scripting or programing language!

I taught the cloverleaf Tcl class for years. My initial statement to the class was always:

"I can teach you Tcl and how to use with Cloverleaf but I cannot teach you programming!"

Programming is a mindset that takes a lot longer than the week allocated to the Tcl class.

I would suggest you, at a minimum, learn basic programming constructs. Learn to think logically, etc. An if statement or a loop is similar in any language.

Charlie do you happen to have any old training guides that you use to use when you were teaching?

Charlie Bursell replied 3 years ago

I still have some slides but they remain the property of Infor so I would be reluctant to send them out. If it is just Tcl you need there are some great tutorials on YouTube. Once you know Tcl the Cloverleaf extensions, which are pretty well documented, should not present a problem.

Totally understandable. Thank you

I took this class on TCL from https://www.wibit.net/course/Tcl

It’s all you need! The instructor Kevin, makes it fun. Be careful – you may end up taking some of his other courses.
