xlate error: unable to load file xx_rad_to_ecl_ORU.xlt

We are on 5.8.003, on unix.

I have several xlates, when I try to load them I get the error above.  

Also get exception:

Error occurred in server thread; nested exception is:

   java.lang.InternalError: Constructor failure: null

This xlate has not been changed since 11/2010.

Any help would be appreciated.

This turned out to be a problem with the variant that the translation was using. A Z-segment had been added without any field definition. Not sure how. The user may have lost his/her session while editing the variant.
