      Enhancement short description:

Showing the delimiter in null value output fields.

      Date:

      02/01/2009

      Operating System:

      AIX

      Version of OS:

      5.1

      Cloverleaf Version:

      5.2

      Revision:

      Rev 1

      Tool:

      VRL Configurator

      Enhancement Long Description:

VRL Configurator has to have the option of showing the delimiters for null value or empty fields where data is not valued.

The null value fields in the output file is to be shown when translating from a flat file/HL7 format to a VRL output format. For example, if the there are null value fields at the end of a output record in a csv file,

      data,data,data,,

all of the delimiters(comma in this case) has to be forced in the output records.

Currently the VRL configurator shows only the fields that have data in the output records. As in the example above, the output to the csv file shows up as

      data,data,data

I am requesting that VRL confurator should have an option of showing the delimiters even in the data is not valued.

          Enhancement Long Description:

To add to the previous post, there should be an option to force the field separator after the last field defined. As it is now, the last field (even if all fields are not null) is not followed by the field separator.

This causes some parsers in other systems to choke.

I see this as an option because many of have work-arounds in plcae that would fail if suddenly this feature were the default. Additionally, there are some parsers that are OK with no last field separator.

It would be nice if VRL separators were in the SEPCHARS Metadata field.

If the SEPCHARS metadata field contained the VRL separators, Tcl procs that needed to workk with the VRL message would not need to be told via arguments what the separators are. Also if the VRL configuration changed the separator characters, the effect would be dynamic for down stream Tcl procs that interrogated the SEPCHARS metadata field.
