Using Cacti to monitor Cloverleaf host

We are working on a brand new 5.8 clustered deployment on ESX. There have been conversations about enhancing our monitoring capabilities by targeting OS and H/W specific metrics via custom utilities that report up to Cacti.

Has anybody out there used Cacti to monitor their Cloverleaf implementations? If so, what specific metrics did you target?
