      Hello all,

We’re currently running QDX 5.3 on a Windows 2003 server (one test site & one production site both on this server). We need to install version 5.4.1 and I’m hoping someone out there can give me an approximate length of time this usually takes. Per the documentation our production threads/processes need to be turned off to do this and we need to know how long our interfaces will be unavaiable.

Sorry if this question seems simple – we currently have support through our HIS vendor and are moving away from this configuration. This is the 1st upgrade we’ve ever made to the application. Thanks.

          John,

As far as the actual ‘cutover’ in production, it is really just a matter of shutting everything down in 5.3, and then starting them back up in 5.4.1.  Assuming that you have done all of your testing and then performed the preparatory steps (i.e. the ‘hcirootcopy’), it just a matter of shutting down all of your inbound threads, letting everthing flow out of the engine (so nothing remains queued in the recovery DB), and then shutting down all of the processes.  Then you just bring everything up in the 5.4.1 instance.  So, the “downtime” should be minor, as long as there isn’t alot of data queued that you have to wait for to process.

The bulk of your work lies in the testing/validation prior to cut-over.

          Hope this helps.

            Jim,

Thanks for your help. I reviewed the standard QDX installation document, and I couldn’t find any mention of having to have our production processes/threads stopped to do an install (other than when the server has to be rebooted at the end of the install).

The documentation I received from our HIS vendor contradicts this; their documentation mentions having our engine stopped when doing both the install of 5.4.1 and the migration (hcirootcopy, hcixltconvert, etc.).

            Thanks again.

              John,

I’m assuming that you will be performing a “Update/Migrate Install”, which shouldn’t require a re-boot either, if my recollection is correct.
