Upgrade from 5.8.5 to 6.0.2.0 and changing IP’s/Server Name

Our current TST and PRD 5.8.5.0 Cloverleaf servers are running on Server 2003.  To upgrade to 6.0.2.0 we need to move servers as it seems 2003 is no longer supported.  I have built the Server 2008 R2 server and successfully copied the sites into the new server.  I am in the process of now making sure all directories and files our scripts/Xlates call out to are present as well.

My question:

After completing this process my ideal cut over process would be to power off the old server and rename this new server to the old servers Windows name and change the IP address to the old servers address.  One thing I did notice in the installation process was that it made sure to state that the IP address needs to be set to what it is going to be before installation.  Is it possible to change the server IP and Windows Name after Cloverleaf is installed or does this require a re-install of Cloverleaf?  Also has anyone ever done a cut over like this or know of a better way?  I am trying to avoid getting all the firewall exceptions, VPN’s, and custom code out there changed for all of our external connections and file copies to the Cloverleaf server.  Thanks!

When we upgraded our test engine from 5.7 to 6.02, after I got the sites built, we just renamed the new test server to the old server’s  name and IP address, and renamed the old test server to just something else with a new IP, shut them both down and brought up the new one and everything reconnected without having to do much. Didn’t have to get one vendor involved. Both the new and old servers were virtual.

We had a similar process when we upgraded. We also have a clustered environment so we brought down one cluster, and changed the other clusters IP address to the same as the old server and everything fell into place. You shouldn’t have to reinstall Cloverleaf.

Thanks guys!  This makes me feel better about my plan.  The instruction to set the IP address to what it will be before install kind of made me pause.

Not sure how windows works with IIS web services but on Linux when I did exactly what you mentioned I had to manually change the httpd configuration file to the new name/IP.
