If you are talking about the Cloverleaf add-on ODBC Drivers (Data Integrator I think is the name) which are provided by DataDirect (now a part of Progress software) then I would submit they are the industry leader for robustness and performance.
We use the Data Direct drivers (wire protocol) here and they scream plus they have been bullet proof (just like Cloverleaf).
On the other hand, tclodbc is free I believe.

I used data direct in my previous position. It was a Unix environment. In a Windows environment, there’s no need for data direct correct? Just create a DSN with Windows tool and roll on.
That is correct however you lose the performance and robustness of the DataDirect drivers (particularly the wire protocol) but that may not be a significant issue.
