SIU-DG1 Question

Hi folks,

In the SIU messages, DG1 segment (DG1-3 in particular) appear to be the place to populate admit diagnosis.

But DG1-3 seem to require that the entries conform to ICD-9 and the like, rather than free text entry?

David,

DG1-3 allows the use of quite a few coding systems (look in Chapter 7 of the HL/7 standard for more information).

The Data Type is CE which allows for specification of a coding system and a textual description.

Yea, I wanted to say we use PV2-3 (admit reason) but then realized you were talking about SIU messages and couldn’t figure out how to delete the post. 😯
