      Is there any way to set a limit on the length of a subfield? I do not see that option in the HL7 configurator.

          There is no option in the HL/7 configurator below the field level.

          You can use Tcl though to enforce component and sub-component length constraints.

            Use a variant and put the length you need in the field definition.
