We are evaluating Pharmacy, Lab, and Nursing systems to replace the current systems at our hospital.  We would like to buy all 3 from 1 vendor but it appears that our Lab department likes the SCC Softcompuer lab system. Can  anyone give an opinion concerning Interfaces with SCC?

Opinions about SCC in general would be welcome too.

          Have you looked at Cerner?

We just integrated SCC with STAR.  It has been a challenge; however, any lab integration can get a little crazy, especially the results.

We too have been running a bidirectional adt/orers/results and charges from scc thru cloverleaf to/from Mckesson Star .

It works…Lab complains about SCC’s (lack/slowness) responsiveness and costs associated with requests to them for fixes and enhancements ….

but that is not unusual with any vendor of signficant size in client base.

I know this..they do a much better job than Cerner. I get the feeling (from experience that) Cerner’s HL7 records are not “true” Hl7 in that the data seems to be cut/chopped from a dataqbase that was not defined with proper datatypes…it seems to be all character….often we get space filler in fields where it just doesnt make sense. You can tell cerner is taking fields from a fixed context/lack of proper property definiton and plugging it into fields with “|” bars and a bunch of “^”‘s etc….

I agree.  SCC Does a very good job with interfaces.

We had a great implementer for the interfaces and they were done way before the rest of the implementation project.

Our experience has shown problems in other areas.

We are also looking at purchasing a new lab system and SCC is one of the ones we are looking at.  Our concern today is that we currently have a one-to-one mode from our PMIS system where the labs are ordered and they would like to move us to a one-to-many mode.  The one to one is where each test on an order has its own message and the one-to-many is where there is one ORC but multiple OBR segments with all tests on an order in one message.

Does anyone know if SCC can support the one to many mode?

                  thanks,
