read returned error 9 (Bad file descriptor)

I have a thread that repeats this in the error log:

[pdl :PDL :ERR /0:  thread1:03/07/2010 09:18:16] read returned error 9 (Bad file descriptor)

This message repeats multiple times within a second for several minutes. The thread is a regular mlp_tcp.pdl connection, connecting to Misys.

This server is: Redhat 5.3 / QDX 5.7 Rev 1

Any Ideas?

This error has been fixed in 5.7 rev2.

It sounds like either a port conflict which could be due to the use of a port in the ephemeral range for inbound communications.  If this is a VPN connection the tunnel may be timing out and collapsing without notifying either end.  I have seen both happen.
