What is the assigned range of “ephemeral” ports used by QDX 5.6 on Linux?

Having trouble connecting with client thru firewall. Firewall admin would like to know what range of ports QDX needs.

The range of ephemeral port numbers is established by the operating system. Here is a good reference

In addition to ephemeral ports (port numbers assigned by the OS), you might also have to look into Java RMI port number assignments.  I could be wrong, but I think that’s how the Cloverleaf GUI’s communicate with the host server.

where would you find the port numbers used for RMI?

I think that you need to allow connections to the host server port and all ports in the ephemeral range.

The host server port is related to the version of Cloverleaf that you’re running.

Also, I’ve seen problems in the past if the client can’t ping the server.  This was causing a 60 second delay to opening connections to the server.  Our issue was with remote users connected over a VPN.  I’m not sure if you guys have to do something special so that the client can send pings (ICMP requests) to the server.
