We have a spreadsheet that has all the ports our threads are using and it is rather old, predating me. There is a section that says ports 5000 and below are to be used for Cloverleaf use only. Is this still in effect or was it ever?

      Thanks.

          Kevin,

I don’t think that was ever a Cloverleaf mandate, but more likely an organizational mandate.  I believe I have seen mention of a recommendation to NOT use any ports below 9000 as those tend to be reserved for other things (not related to Cloverleaf).

Vendors are now registering ports above 9000 as well. Here we have arbitrairly set our floor to 12000.

we had a vendor want to use 2575 and i told him we couldnt and made him change it to what i wanted. i was curious if that was technically true or not.

Technically, you could use port 2575 as long as it is not conflicting with something else.  It is dependent on who is the client/server and whether or not the port is already in use on the ‘server’ machine.  From http://www.iana.org ( http://www.iana.org/assignments/service-names-port-numbers/service-names-port-numbers.xhtml?search=hl7 ), port 2575 is registered as reserved for HL7, so this is likely where the vendor was coming from.

                  Thanks,
