Patient temporary location

Does anyone use PV1.11 – Temporary Location – to indicate a patient is temporarily in a location other than the assigned unit/room/bed? For instance, when an inpatient is sent to the Cath Lab, and may be there for several hours – long enough to get a meal – is this ‘temporary move’ information sent out in ADT, to whom, and in what field? I’m asking if your HIS performs this function/updates this field (or something like it) or do you have logic in Cloverleaf to account for temporary moves?

Peter,

In our ADT interface with Epic, we see ADT^A02s occuring when a patient is sent to another area for treatment, but the PV1:6 field (Prior Patient Location), component 6, it indicates “PATIENT RETURNING”; we don’t see any value in PV1.11.  We filter these particular ADT^A02 messages to most of our downstreams as they don’t want to remove the patient from that bed because it would cause issues with things like the cancellation of phone & TV service, or cancellation of meds from the Pyxis station in that unit, etc.

I like that idea! Filter on PATIENT RETURNING for everything except dietary (or do something different for dietary).
