I’m having a problem with empty segments after using a pathcopy @null to them.

I have a situation in translate, where I have a venipuncture service code in FT1s that needs to go in a seperate message.  I’m SENDing the current message, PATHCOPYing @NULL to the group, and populating the first FT1 with the venipuncture code (along with other FT1 fields).  When I get the message out of translate, I have FT1s at the end that have nothing in them.  Is there an easy way to supress these empty segments?

I have usually seen this happen when a segment I am pathcopying is not defined as optional.  Try creating a variant and define that segment as optiona for the message type you are using the FT1 segment in.

Thanks a million!  Seems so obvious from this side of the problem.
