Even without a VPN, I’ve seen this plenty of times.
If the connection is abruptly terminated, one or both ends may believe they’re still connected.
Have you restarted your end of the connection?
If so and it won’t reconnect, the other end of the connection will need to be restarted.
If it reconnects and you’re still not moving messages, check to see if you’re receiving ACKs – and, if so, are they AE/AR? If so, restart the other end of the connection – it may have lost connection to a database on its end.
If you’re connected, but not receiving any ACKs, it’s likely something is hung up on the other end. Restart the other end of the connection.
