Newbie HA script for Version 6 question

we are planning to upgrade our current V3.8 to V6 on windows platform and also need to upgrade hardware too.

for hardware upgrade, we have two options right now. standard alone box or san hardware.

does Infor HA script failover function only work on San box?

Anybody could share disaster recovery site design information and HA script on san box and standard alone system?

I am not a UNIX admin and I have not installed the HA scripts for Cloverleaf, but I have reviewed them recently – it should not matter if the Cloverleaf file system(s) are on a SAN or not. The HA Cloverleaf scripts will be run after the HA actions are taken by the HA software on the server(s). These actions will include moving the SAN file system to the surviving box, if SAN is used. If it is not used, then you must have some other means of keeping the backup file system in sync with your normal, primary file system. One of the last actions taken by the HA software is to execute the designated application startup scripts, which include the Cloverleaf HA scripts. These scripts reference, or set, certain required environment variables like HACMP_HCI_ROOT &  _SITE, HACMP_NODE1_SITES_FILESYSTEM and HACMP_NODE1_FILESYSTEM which contain the correct location of the Cloverleaf file system. It also maintains or uses the server.ini to be correct for the instance of Cloverleaf that is to be run at that location.

I don’t know anything about storage systems that keep file systems in sync in real time. I know they exist, and a previous employer used them to update a DR site’s backups, but we also used SAN to store the integration and application software and used HACMP to ‘move’ the filesystem from the disabled server to the surviving server. I believe having both methods were the best of breed solutions, but the two solutions were used for  different purposes – failover (of a server) and DR (failure of larger set of resources like a data center).

I highly recommend using resources from Infor that specialize in HACMP configuration for Cloverleaf. We have worked with one resource in particular that is expert in both and quickly realized from working closely with them that there are many aspects and details that must be analyzed, and many decisions must be made, before the technical configuration is clear and can be implemented. Your server configuration, and your storage configuration, can present many variables. I hesitate to answer detailed questions because our environments are likely different. I know cost is a concern but I believe a SAN storage configuration is the most reliable and has more integrity, than a data-synchonization scheme for failover recovery. I will say that we are in the middle of a change from one SAN storage vendor to another, and we will have to change some configuration in the HACMP software, and we will have downtime while the data is migrated between storage devices.
