      Good Day! I hope this finds you all well!

      I have a requirement in 6.1 that I’m unsure of. Its very likely quite easy but I’m unsure of the layout of an HL7 2.4 varient.

      attached file “desired-a08.jpg” is a snapshot of how it needs to be setup.

      attached file “2.4_ihs.jpg” is a snapshot of how I have it setup in 6.1. I suspect its not right but before I get too lost I thought I’d ask the experts. If it is wrong a snapshot of a correct layout would be much appreciated. Thanks!

          If it were me I would use the standard (which has a lot more groups and segments but they are all optional) and add the Z segments.

          The rationale here is if in a future release support for any of the standard groups or segments were to occur you would not have to make a variant change which might upset your Xlates.

          I would also confirm with the source or receiver of these A08s if the Z Segments are not really optional. Most times they are.

            OK, I will use the original and add the Z segments. Am I correct though in the grouping?

            Where they have an indented “Z” on a repeated segment, doesn’t that make the indented segment also repeat?

            …getting confused…

              Well as usual the provided doc is not clear but since they are not showing grouping via notation my guess is these are simply added segments.

              For example, my guess would be the DG1 can repeat and after all of the repetitions there can be one and only one ZDX segment.

              Having this:

              {

               DG1

               ZDX

              }

              would mean every DG1 would have to be followed by a ZDX. That might be true but their notation does not explicitly show that.

              So the only thing I see out of whack with the standard is having the DG1 before the OBX. In the standard it is the other way around.

              It would be worth a conversation with the author of the document to determine grouping if any as well as the juxtaposition of the DG1 and OBX.

              Too much guessing at this point.

                In the document regarding the message type I found one sample.

                The final export will be using a batch (something I’ve never attempted) combine ‘n’ number of A08’s and A31’s wrapped up into a batch but that’s another fight.

                Here is their sample:
