Currently we have only one Cloverleaf server running on AIX, all the site reside at the same box. Sort of single point failure. We would like to have another new server, to be a part of Disaster Recorery plan. ideally we would like have two servers having all sites installed, recover each other once failure. Has anyone out there experienced the situation and would be much appciated if could share any inputs such as:what kind of server/ box, lisenceing cost, implementation and topology. Thank you very much

Since you are on AIX, you might want to investigate clustering with the IBM HACMP product.  In my past experience, I have had good success with that plan.  This can be a costly approach, but it is mostly automated and reliable.

A poor mans approach might be to keep a backup copy on the secnod server, like a cold standby, and it sits ready to start up and do the duties of the first server.  The second server should be configured with same IP address as the first, and should never be turned on while the first is running.

          Good luck,

Do you have a VM infrastructure? If so, Cloverleaf on Linux on a VM is very good. It’s relatively cheap to maintain multiple Cloverleaf installations. One Redhat license is about $1k/year.

Hongle, we could talk all day about tihs, but I can only speak at high level and not at the level of how much this is going to cost you.  Your best bet is to find a good IBM/AIX systems inegrator and have them discuss options.  I know Quovadx offers these services, so a good first start might be to call your local rep and get someone from there to talk to you about options.

However, this is not going to be a low cost proposition not matter what your company decides.  Even if you decide to go Red Hat, you are going to lose the money in your AIX investment.  Try to sell that one to a manager or finance person!
