Message Acknowledgements

As someone whose knowledge is deficient in ACK/NACK protocols, I would like to know how to configure a simple network (such as an ADT system sending patient info to a lab system) so that an acknowledgement message would be sent back from the lab for every ADT message it receives.  (Our lab system claims not receiving all of the ADTs sent to it even though the messages clearly leave the interface engine).  Thanks.

John, Save your outbound messages to query later and  we have a proc that does the ACK/NAK processing.  Send an email to wcouch@sleh.com and I will discuss further.

Does the Lab send an application level NAK/ACK ?

If so turn on both In-bound and Out-bound SMAT files.

Then look to find if any of the inbound ACK are really NAK’s.

If so then that can point you to the right direction.

If they don’t send an application level NAK/ACK then you will need to find an ADT they claimed failed then pull up both SMAT files find the outbound ADT find the associated inbound ACK if there is one and prove to them it was sent and at least protocol leveled ACK.
