I have an application that CANNOT print to a file.

Can I print to a port on the engine and have the engine receive the print job, put the text into a message and send the message on to the outbound thread?

The outbound thread would likely then be configured with the fileset ftp protocol and put the message to a file.

      Thanks for the help.

Yes you can, but how you achieve it depends on what os your print job is coming from and what os Cloverleaf is running on.

We have a PAS running on Tru64 unix and I need to form HL7 messages from data only available from a printed report.

I set up a remote lpr/lpd printer on my Cloverleaf box running Solaris 8 and configured it just to save to a file. Then I set up a PAS print queue to print to the remote printer on Solaris.

If this is relevant to you, let me know and I

Thanks Dave.  This sounds like a much better idea.  Yes, please tell me more.

The print job will be coming from Windows (2003, I think) and we run Cloverleaf on HPUX, “soon” to be running on Linux.

Do you have problems with print jobs coming too quickly and writing over a previous file or combining who prints into one file?

            Thanks for the help.
