My organization is looking at vendors of log management products, to solve the need of alerting and identifying events on our hardware, applications, networking, etc.  I can’t think of any alerts that I need that I can’t provide from the engine, but I’ve been asked to see if any other Cloverleafers work with a log management product, and if so, which product (vendor) and what benefit does that bring (what need are you solving)?

          Courtney,

Are you talking about centralized network management systems that use SNMP for their exchange like CA-Universe or IBM’s Tivoli?

If so, I believe the Cloverleaf Global Monitor can send SNMP messages based on Clovelreaf alerts to participate. Then you get to continue to configure your alerts any way you want and the enterprise monitoring facility can be made aware.

We don’t use any SNMP type products but we have recently licensed for Global Monitor.

I am pretty sure there are Cloverelaf shops that are using Global Monitor to participate in an SNMP exchange – hopefully they will see your post and respond.

            Hi there Jim,

I’m actually talking about products that gather logs from applications, parse them, and then create dashboards, reports, alerts – such as those provided by Nitro/Accuvant, Alert Logic, MainNerve, etc.  While I feel Cloverleaf does a sufficient job with alerting, none of our 100+ apps really have alerting logic for their side of the interfaces (i.e., let our analysts or Ops folks know when there’s a queue on their outbound interface), failed saves to the database, failed posting to accounts, etc that could be used to improve the quality of proactive support or reporting ability of the application.  There’s a whole other side of these products that have to deal with security, compliance, monitoring of hardware/database/OS, and much more.

But what I am looking to find is if anyone else has dealt with this type of product as it relates to Cloverleaf and if so, what benefit they found it to be
