We are configuring QDX 5.6 on Linux v2.6.9 and were wondering what the best practices were for maintaining the /etc/hosts and /etc/services files?

What port range is recommended for Linux? Manual says 5000  and up.

Should we bother adding entries for hosts and services?

Just wondering what gotcha’s anyone has run into.

We don’t use them at all. Strictly DNS. Much easier to maintain.

We use DNS in lieu of /etc/hosts, but use /etc/services to document our port usage.

I agree with Max. I’d recommend DNS instead of /etc/hosts and numeric port values in NetConfig instead of /etc/services.
