We have a vendor who is requesting that each lab result hl7 message end with a hex code of 1c which I understand is a file separator code.  Currently our lab system send a 0d or carriage return. How would one go about “adding” that in an xlate or is that even possible?

Is this a TCP/IP interface? If you use the pdl-tcpip protocol with the mlp_tcp PDL driver, it should add the necessary characters for you.  0x1C is a byte that is part of HL7’s “minimal lower layer protocol”.
