      Greetings Clovertechers,

I found a reference to the server admin tool while researching another topic. I’m still pretty new to UNIX and can’t quite figure out how to launch this stand-alone GUI tool. Do I need an xterm program or is there a way to launch this from the Windows client?

      Cloverleaf 5.3 Rev2 on HP-UX 11i

      Thanks!

I recall this command but not very clearly.

I’m not sure I’ve ever used it but seems like I ran across it during an upgrade or something.

I was a bit curious so having a handy X-term environment I decided to attempt launching hciserveradmin& on our AIX Cloverleaf test server.

It did act like it was starting as I saw the QDX logo but then received the following error:

The Server Administration GUI only runs on a local machine in local mode.  Remote mode was attempted.  One way to change to local mode is to modify the client.ini file within the root directory.  Remove all sections EXCEPT the general section.  Then invoke the GUI again.

I did what it said and was able to launch hciserveradmin& and below are the screen shots.

Is the hciserveradmin tool used for basic security which is something I’m starting to be forced to think about?

hciserveradmin is a fancy schmancy gui way of editing the server.ini file.

Many times it’s just as easy to directly edit the server.ini file directly if you know what you are doing.

Don’t forget to bounce the hostserver after making changes.

Russ, You can enable/disable basic security by editing server.ini too.

Change false to true but have your certificates ready.

I believe the tool is hcicertmanager to create the certificates.

Thanks for the replies. After a little digging I found some docs on hciserveradmin in the user guide vol. 2 and the security admin book which is in the docs folder but not on the IDE help menu.

It’s good to know that I can edit server.ini directly because I currently have no way to launch the GUI.
