Were standing up new AIX clusters (1 cluster – prod and 1 for test)

in running hcihostid….the same value is yielded for both clusters even though differnent LPARS

is it because of 1 MAC address for the entire piece of metal?

The short answer is yes, all the LPAR’s in a single frame will return the same hcihostid.  Does raise a couple of questions.  When you say 1 cluster for prod, 1 for test, does that mean a total of four LPAR’s?(i.e. primary prod/secondary prod, primary test/secondary test)  And they’re all on the same frame?  Even if you mean it’s one cluster, with two active nodes(one for prod, one for test which will take over the prod load in a failover), we generally try to have the primary and the fail-to on different frames.  ‘Cause, for example, if you have a power supply issue to the frame, the whole thing is down, and the fact that you have HA gets you about nothing.  Also, if there’s maintenance that needs to be done to the frame(e.g. more memory or CPU’s being added), if you’re on separate frames you can fail over to the other for the maintenance and fail back after.  If everything’s on one, same dealio, HA gets you about nothing.

          Just some thoughts.
