hcidbdump issues via VPN

I have had a strange experience executing hcidbdump over a VPN connection using Putty. When executing, I used a message Id range and typed in some bad numbers. It should have just returned a message stating it was a bad range or something but it locked up and had to Ctrl-C. After this I was getting some odd error returns that I can’t remember what they said when I ran hcidbdump -e logged in as hciuser. Excuse my poor memory.

I had a coworker who was on the local network to run the same command from his PC and he got a normal return. Strange!

Then he logged into the machine locally and ran the command under hciuser and it performed normally.

Is there any reason that anyone knows of that would cause two people, on local and one on VPN to get different results on hcidbdump -e?
