hci executables at the site level

We are having an issue of  a memory leak and Infor has sent us a test engine to put in and  collect debug information.  The problem is only occurring with 1 process.  I was told to replace the current version of hciengine (making a backup copy first) at the root level and then bounce the entire site that’s having the issue.  

Can someone tell me why I can’t place the test engine at the site level (bin directory under the site) and only bounce the process that’s having the issue.

We are running CL v 6.1.2.1 and AIX 6.1  .
