Running 5.8 rev 5 on my test server and noticed my thread names were no longer enclosed within the thread itself.  (They are all underneath.)  Checked the “New Features and Enhancements” and it specifically reads that preference has been removed.

I’m not exactly sure how that can be considered an enhancement .. I have always had my threads set up with the name enclosed for ease of viewing. In prior versions/revisions, you were able to choose where you wanted the name to be presented.  I have 3 sites and around 200 threads and it is taking me longer to locate things.  (The names tend to be cut by routing arrows.)

Has anyone either found some sort of work-around or heard if they will be revisiting this?  Or am I the only one having an issue with this?  ðŸ™‚

          Jaye,

I just found this myself today as I started with 5.8 Rev5…..I would hope this ‘enhancement’ is reversed in Rev6.  The view with thread names enclosed is much easier for everyone here…..

Just wondering if there is a variable somewhere than can be set to correct this….

          Chris

On Cloverleaf 5.6 under the ‘Options’ Menu select ‘Client Options’.

Client Options presents a ‘Cllent Preferences’ container with multiple Tabs.

The NetConfig/NetMonitor Tab has a checkbox ‘Enclose thread name in thread graphics.

See if you get there in 5.8. If so see if the checkbos is checked, if it is uncheck it and see if that takes care of things.

              Jim:

Worked fine in 5.8.4.  It was removed in 5.8.5.  Specifically mentioned on page 10 of Release Notes for 5.8.5.  Not sure how removing functionality is an “Enhancement”.  Ugh!!!

Not crazy about that enhancement myself (we’re still at 5.7.2).  Curious, would putting the setting netcon_netmon_enclose_thread_name=true into the client.ini work even if the checkbox isn’t available in GUI???

Vince….added it to my client.ini and did not make a difference…..but I did not see that in my 5.7 setup….

Well if you can get expensed to go to the User Conference and they still have the session where you get to meet the developers you can bring that up.

Anyone going? Maybe you can bring that up for those who want this but are not going.

If someone would bring that up, that would be great!  I frequently send screenshots to users of their interfaces and have already been told this is harder to view.  (I’m having the same issue.)

I won’t have the opportunity to go to the conference.  WAY too many big projects with short timelines.  (I’m sure others can relate…LOL)

If this is an “Enhancement”, I’d love to know how it is an improvement? 🙂

                        Greetings,

I attended the 2011 CUE and you no longer have access to developers or R & D staff.   I have no idea of whom you would see now in 2012.

For us we have been submitting Lawson CASEs to request enhancement requests and report issues.

Just for the record here:  we recently upgraded our TEST/DEV Cloverleaf to 5.8.5.0 and like the new graphics.   (At least I do in our group).

                        Enjoy.

                          Bob,

Hmmm one more reason for my management to not want to pay the fee for attendance – no direct input.

That was one of the really attractive things about the conference – the ability to interact with the developers.

I like the ability to see the type of thread…pdl, file, etc….but having the name enclosed in the graphic made it easier to read and document.  But I guess with the new graphics display, it is not possible to include the name.

Not going to CUE myself, hard to justify cost vs return unlike old days.

We will just have to get used to the new display for now……

There will be direct access to Cloverleaf developers at the user conference! Lots of opportunities in fact. I’ll be there for one, so please don’t hesitate to find me if there’s anything you’d like to discuss.

                            Take a look at http://www.inforum2012.com/.

These two sessions specifically would be good opportunities to offer suggestions.

                              Max,

No disrespect here but are you a developer or an implementor?

What we are talking about is the old ‘meet the developers’ session where some of the engine developers met with the attendees.

I looked at the sessions and did not see any session specifically dedicated to direct interaction with the developers.

While it may be possible to express one’s desires via the sessions and forum you indicate since there is no accounting for the actions on the submitted ideas (and really never was) as to there acceptance, etc. meeting with the developers gave the customers a chance to express their needs directly to the developers and ge feedback.

Oh, sorry, I gotcha. I do not know whether or not the developers will be there. If none of the engine developers are there, the implementers and James and Rob will all be able to answer questions or take your questions back to the development team.

We currently have 5.8.5 on a test server only, but I’m throwing my 2 cents in on this.  We have some sites with 80 to 90 interfaces, and it’s impossible read the names.

Thanks Tim!  I am having the exact same issue.  It’s a MESS if you have a lot of threads.  I am having to adjust all of my Views and even that isn’t always helping.

Can someone from HealthVision (who I know read these) please explain why this was changed?  Removing functionality doesn’t usually qualify as an enhancement.

                                    Vince/Chris,

Did you also check the client.ini on your desktop client.ini file?   The client.ini on our UNIX file has that setting set to “false” but the one on the desktop client.ini file is set to “true”.   Our settings are set up this way and our threads are enclosed.   We are on 5.8 but are not on the laters rev patch yet.

                                    Thanks…Tom

It was a specific “enhacement” to 5.8.5. They note that they removed the functionality in 5.8.5.  (We had it in 5.8.4)
