I am trying to do some cleaning up on our sites and in the process directories I see some files with filename form of *.ecd   .  What are these files used for and can I get rid of the old ones?

These are related to SMAT and I routinely delete them without issue.  I suspect they come about when you view a file using the GUI.

If you open a SMAT file and you change the way you are viewing the messages (Encode scheme, Encode format, Format options etc), these settings will be saved in the .ecd file. Next time you open that same SMAT file, the last settings are set.

No problem to delete these regularly; settings are set back to default then.
