      Greetings,

This is the first time I’ve encountered a -901 error. Can anyone shed some light on this particular error? It looks as if a thread pstart command triggered the panic:

      Quote:

[cmd :cmd :INFO/0: abstract_cmd] Received command: ‘group_out1_file pstart’

[cmd :cmd :INFO/0: abstract_cmd] Doing ‘pstart’ command on ‘group_out1_file’

      11/19/2005 22:33:12

[dbi :dbi :ERR /0:group_out1_file] Db_Vista database error -901: ‘INTERNAL error: -901

      system error

      C errno = 0: No error’

      11/19/2005 22:33:12

      [pti :sign:WARN/0:group_out1_file] Thread 8 received signal EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION:

The thread attempted to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

We were able to restart the process without a reboot or re-initialization of the databases.

      Cloverleaf 5.3 Rev2 on Windows 2000

      Thanks!

If I’m right, this is one of those semaphore errors. Check the logs of the monitord to see if there is more info there.

I had an inquiry on this error from another Clovertecher so I thought I’d post a follow-up…

The EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred several times but only presented the -901 once that I know of.

We brought up a new set of interfaces that included some Tcl code to start and stop threads. A panic would sometimes happen when a pstop or pstart command was issued. My best guess is that stopping and starting threads frequently causes a memory leak in Windows and eventually results in a panic.

The workaround was to set up a .cmd file to bounce the process twice a week. We haven’t had a panic in three weeks but I still have the engine output turned up just in case.
