      I have been asked to stop sending messages to remote systems while they do their backups.  I’m sure this is not the first place to have this request.  This occurs for two system one at 1:00 am or so the other at 4:00 am.

      I know I can do just a simple hold and release script real easy. I already

      have that.

          John,

          We have the same requirement for our lab outbound interfaces and use a combination of a tcl in the inbound that tests for time and writes to a fileset which is stopped/started by cron jobs – a sort of middle man to handle this flow – saves the recovery database from managing these records.  Ok… doesn’t answer your question, but I noticed that there is an alert “thread held” with a true or false value to test.  

          Maybe play with configuring a thread held alert that fires if the thread is not on hold?

          Just a thought… have never tried it out – yet.
