      I have been using another documentation system tied to our sites, processes, and threads for years to assist our Operations staff.  Now, I’d like to tap into the Notes files that started with 5.6 (or possibly earlier).

      Yet, I don’t want to manually key in my previous documentation system’s “notes” into the Notes dialog via the NetConfig GUI.

      My question is:  I don’t see anything in the NetConfig for a given thread that states whether notes currently exist for that thread.  Is it safe for me to create the notes files ($HCISIDEDIR/notes/NetConfig/{process}/thread_{threadname}.notes) in an automated fashion outside the NetConfig GUI, without hurting anything?

      Thank you.

      Joe

          Joe,

          We converted all of our Operations notes into the Notes for NetConfig via a script that simply created the text files as you describe.

            Excellent.  That’s what I was hoping to hear.

            Thanks, Jim.

              One little caveat to working with Notes in the NetConfig:

                Jim,

                That is a good point.  There is another way to do it if you are running Cloverleaf under UNIX.

                For example, I make my edits to a version of NetConfig called NetConfig.axr143.

                If you look at the “notes” directory underneath the site:

                $ pwd

                /hci/qdx5.6/integrator/adt_in_prd/notes

                $ ls

                NetConfig         NetConfig.axr143

                I perform a recursive copy of the contents of the “NetConfig.axr143” directory to “NetConfig” underneath the notes directory, as it is safer than working on the actual NetConfig file.
