We are in the process of upgrading from 5.6 to 5.8. Say, the 5.8 is installed in TEST and we continue our development in 5.8.

If our production 5.8 is not ready (since we want to minimize code freeze and don’t want to go too fast on our upgrade), can we move code from 5.8 to 5.6?

If so, has anyone tried? If this is possible with minor changes, can someone be able to share some information?

      That would be really useful.

Also, anyone have any lessons learnt kind of doc that can be shared who did upgrade to 5.8 on AIX? any issues faced and solutions they approached?

      Thank you so very much.

      Regards,

      Hari

          Hari,

We were running 5.8 in our test environment and 5.6 in prod for quite awhile, and had to implement interfaces developed in 5.8 to 5.6.  Xlates, procs, and the like moved from 5.8 to 5.6 without issue.  Tables did not move from 5.8 to 5.6 as the structure of the .tbl file is different under 5.8.  So, you will need to re-build any Tables that you modified/created under 5.8 when implementing under 5.6.

          Hope this helps.

            James,

That is too good an answer and appreciated.

Can you share some issues you might be having in 5.8, some work arounds or whatever they might be?

Also, have you tried working remote on the GUI, VPN way or remote desktop? Any slowness or any issues launching the DB admin tool using GUI?

If all looks great, thats good to know too.

            Thanks,

            Hari
