      Hello All,

We are using Cloverleaf 5.3 and having an issue with inbound messaging

and VPN communication stopping.  We are receiving X.12 271 messages,

but not on a production basis yet.  The concern is that the connection does only stays open for 2 – 3 hours maximum.  We are using AIX 5.2.

Please advise the best way to keep this inbound connection alive.

Below is error from the log……

      02/12/2007 11:50:22

[pdl :PDL :ERR /0:  fr_mfin_271] read failed: Connection timed out

      02/12/2007 11:50:22

[pdl :PDL :ERR /0:  fr_mfin_271] read returned error 78 (Connection timed out)

      02/12/2007 11:50:22

[pdl :PDL :ERR /0:  fr_mfin_271] PDL signaled exception: code 1, msg device error (remote side probably shut down)

      Engine idle — 02/12/2007 11:50:37

      Thanks,

      Phil Jordan

          Phil,

I think you are going to have to trace outward from the engine to the VPN server (and perhaps beyond).

If there are any Firewalls in that path any of them could have timeouts set for the VPN session. The VPN server could also have some sort of timeout established.

If this is to be a persistent connection, then any discovered timeouts or other constraints need to be resolved to allow unlimited connection.

The “tcp_keepidle” parameter needs to be set to

an interval shorter than the VPN timeout value. We set ours to 3600 and

            the problem was solved.

Have your system AIX administrator check the “no” values.
