Hello, I’ve been working through cleaning up one of our Cloverleaf sites freeing up used space. One of the file types I came across was .cfs. These files are sporadically placed throughout our site directory in <site>/smatsearchindex/exec/processes/<thread> directory. An example of a name is _1ad8.cfs. They are large files and also binary. I would like to remove these permanently, but never came across any like this before. Just wanted to shout a quick question out to my fellow Cloverleafers to make sure there would be no harm to anything on Cloverleaf by removing these? We run Cloverleaf 19.1 on RedHat 7.5.

      Thanks!

I have learned while continuing to investigate that the .cfs file type appears to be something Cloverleaf generated as the files do exist mostly on all processes. Just not sure how to get the files to cycle manually so they shrink in size.

These files are generated by Global Monitor.  They are search indexes for your SMAT files.  I am guessing you use SMAT file instead of DB?

You can specify which sites and directories support SMAT searching and indexing by going into “Host List (tab) -> Configure Hosts (tab) -> Configure SMAT Searching Sites (button)” configuration dialog.

If you can, I recommend switching to SMAT DB, it works faster and does not require external search indexes.  Creating these external search indexes is a fairly expensive operation in terms of resources.
