Backing Up

We have cloverleaf ver 5.4.1 running on a Windows Server 2003 box.

I was told we could use backup-exec to back it up but to NOT to the EXEC folders on each process. (This came from the person I am replacing.  No explanation as to why to skip the exec folder.)

My question is: Is this correct?

If so, I have to explain to our Network Admin(s) why.

One thought that crosses my mind is that the $HCISITEDIR/exec directories contain files that are locked and dynamically changing like SMAT files and the recovery database.

Any backup of these frequently changing files would not be much good anyway to try and restore from.

If you were to shut the site down before doing your backup then backing up the exec directories would be plausible but usually that’s not an option.

I’ve been just backing up everything and ignoring errors about files locked like SMAT and realize I can’t use any of the dynamic files in those directories to restore from most likely.

Hi Guys, I know this is an old thread but is there anyone out there on a Windows platform who can comment?

            Thanks, Mike

Have you ever had to do a restore from backup exec for your cloverleaf server?
